Prior Park Proposal & Couple Photographer in Bath
Guide to Planning a Proposal at Prior Park
Natural proposal and couple photography at Prior Park Landscape Garden in Bath. Helpful planning advice, proposal logistics, timings, and practical information before booking your shoot. Prior Park Landscape Garden is one of the most popular locations in Bath for surprise proposals, engagement sessions, and relaxed couple photoshoots. The gardens are quieter than many central Bath locations and work especially well for couples looking for a more private atmosphere surrounded by nature .I live around 10 minutes away from Prior Park and regularly photograph proposals and couple sessions here, so I can help with practical planning, timings, quiet areas, and organising the photography permit before your shoot.
Planning a Proposal at Prior Park Landscape Garden
Prior Park is managed by the National Trust and professional photography requires advance permission and a photography fee. At the moment, the photography fee is £250 (2026 pricing) plus standard entry tickets which are £12 per person. There is currently no online booking system for professional photography permits but I can help organise the booking directly with Prior Park before your session. You can also contact Prior Park directly to check the latest photography pricing, opening times, and availability : email priorparkbookings@nationaltrust.org.uk
Opening Times & Seasonal Information
Opening hours vary depending on the season. Typically:
- Spring to Autumn: 10am–5pm
- Winter: reduced opening days and shorter opening hours
During winter months, Prior Park is usually open weekends only between late October and mid-February. I always recommend checking the latest opening times closer to your session date: National Trust Prior Park Information & Opening Times
Private Early Access Before Opening
If you would like the Palladian Bridge completely empty for your proposal photos, Prior Park can sometimes arrange early access before public opening hours.
This usually costs an additional £100 for one extra private hour from 9am. This option works really well for surprise proposals where privacy is important and you would like photos without visitors in the background. Weekday mornings are generally much quieter than weekends throughout the year.
Parking & Getting to Prior Park
There is currently no main visitor car park directly inside Prior Park. Most couples either:
- arrive by taxi from Bath city centre (around 5 minutes)
- walk from Bath bus/train station (around 30–35 minutes uphill)
- use limited nearby on-street parking
Because nearby parking can be very limited, I usually recommend taking a taxi if you are planning a proposal for a stress-free experience.
Best Time for a Prior Park Proposal Photoshoot
Weekday mornings from around 10am are usually the quietest time for proposals and couple shoots at Prior Park. If privacy is important, I normally recommend:
- weekdays rather than weekends
- earlier morning sessions
- avoiding school holidays where possible
If you would like the Palladian Bridge completely empty for your proposal photos, Prior Park can sometimes arrange private early access from 9am before the gardens open to visitors. This is usually an additional £100 for one extra private hour.
Spring and autumn are especially good seasons for photography at Prior Park because the gardens tend to feel quieter and more relaxed throughout the day.
Summer evenings can also work well for photos, although weekends are normally busier around the bridge and main pathways.
How Surprise Proposal Photography Works
Before the shoot, we’ll plan everything together via WhatsApp video chat and emails so you know exactly how the proposal will work on the day. We’ll discuss:
- the exact proposal location
- timings
- where I’ll stand during the proposal
- signals before the proposal
- backup weather plans
I normally arrive around 20–30 minutes earlier and photograph from a distance during the surprise proposal. Most couples are nervous beforehand, which is completely normal. I’ll guide you through everything before the shoot so you feel prepared before the proposal. After the proposal, we usually spend another 60+ minutes taking relaxed couple portraits around the gardens and quieter areas of Prior Park. Most Prior Park proposal sessions last around 1.5–2 hours in total.
What to Wear for a Prior Park Photoshoot
Prior Park involves quite a bit of walking, uneven paths, hills, and grass areas, so I always recommend comfortable shoes — especially for surprise proposals.
Many couples bring a second pair of shoes for portraits after walking through the gardens.
For clothing, softer neutral colours and simple outfits usually photograph best in the gardens and work well throughout the seasons. Layers are also useful as the weather in Bath can change quickly, even during warmer months.
Avoid carrying large backpacks or heavy coats if possible, as couples usually feel much more relaxed moving around during the session without lots to carry.
What Happens if it Rains?
The National Trust photography fee is usually non-refundable once booked, but sessions can normally be moved to another available date if the weather is very bad.
I always keep an eye on the forecast beforehand and help couples decide whether to:
- continue with light rain
- adjust timings
- move the session to another day if needed
If moving the date is not possible, we can still continue the session using umbrellas and adjusting locations around the gardens where needed.
Bath weather can change quickly, so sometimes even a short delay in timing can make a big difference.
Booking, Payment & Photo Delivery
To secure your proposal or couple session date, a 30% deposit is required at the time of booking, with the remaining balance due 2 weeks before the session.
Once your booking is confirmed, we’ll plan everything together via WhatsApp video call and email, including timings, proposal location, weather backup plans, and practical details for the day. You’ll receive:
- a sneak peek gallery within 48 hours (usually around 3–5 edited images)
- your full edited online gallery within 2–3 weeks
Your final gallery is delivered through a private password-protected online gallery and usually includes around 150+ edited images depending on the session length, weather, and location.
